Why natural sunscreen

embrace the power of nature

We all know the perks of going organic, being mindful of sustainability, and cutting down on industrial chemicals at home, right? But here's the deal - when it comes to skincare, it's like the wild west. Way less regulation, and folks are still slathering on products loaded with industrial chemicals and mineral oils. Not cool, especially considering whatever you put on your skin could sneak into your bloodstream.

Now, here's where the good stuff comes in. Over the last two decades, natural ingredients have become the heroes in skincare, making their mark in pretty much every corner of the cosmetics scene. We wanted to be part of that shift and bring you and the environment something better. Enter our sunscreen - rocking superior UVA+UVB protection while being a total sweetheart to your skin.

Our sunscreen lineup is all about keeping it real. No chemical UV filters, no funky fragrances, and definitely no parabens. We've put these babies through the wringer with dermatological tests, ensuring they leave your skin feeling like a million bucks – nourished, moisturised, and fully protected. Plus, we've got the sustainability game on point – reef-friendly, 100% natural ingredients, the whole nine yards.

WHY NATURAL IS BETTER THAN CHEMICAL!

Natural sunscreens are beginning to emerge as a preferred alternative to their chemical counterparts, primarily driven by growing concerns surrounding the adverse effects associated with certain chemical ingredients. Chemical sunscreens, containing OXYBENZONE and OCTINOXATE, have been implicated in coral reef damage and environmental harm. In contrast, natural sunscreens employ mineral-based blockers like non nano zinc oxide, delivering strong UVB and UVA protection without compromising marine ecosystems.

Beyond their environmental considerations, natural sunscreens are renowned for their skin-friendly attributes, making them particularly suitable for individuals with sensitive skin. The avoidance of potential chemical absorption into the bloodstream adds another layer of appeal for those prioritising safety. Opting for natural sunscreens not only ensures personal well-being but also underscores a commitment to environmentally responsible choices, steering clear of the drawbacks associated with certain chemical ingredients.

WHAT DOES "REEF-FRIENDLY" MEAN?

Scientific findings reveal the harmful impact of oxybenzone, an ingredient used in over 3,500 sunscreen products, on coral reefs. Oxybenzone, also known as Benzophenone-3 or BP-3, causes coral bleaching, damages DNA, and disrupts development, particularly in popular tourist areas where concentrations have been found up to 12 times higher than those detrimental to corals. This issue compounds existing stressors on coral reefs, making the estimated 6,000 to 14,000 tonnes of sunscreen lotion entering the ocean annually a serious concern. The term "Reef Friendly" means the avoidance of harmful ingredients like oxybenzone in favour of mineral-based blockers such as zinc oxide, offering effective UV protection without threatening marine ecosystems. Embracing reef-friendly practices becomes crucial for mitigating stress on coral reefs, aligning with broader environmental goals amidst climate change-induced challenges and land-based pollution.

how much do i apply?

Start small. Don't try to cover your whole body in one go. Start by applying about a teaspoon to your arm and rub into the area from your hand to your elbow, then elbow to shoulder. Apply to one small section of your body at a time and you'll be sun-ready in no time.

Use the right amount to cover yourself. As a general guide, use a teaspoon on each arm, leg, your face, neck and ears, and two teaspoons on the front of your chest and your back.

XO Skin Co's 100% natural and organic protection acts like a barrier, repelling the sun's harmful rays.

Chemical sunscreens only work once these rays have been absorbed into your skin.

I know which one i would be choosing!
